About the position The Business Development Principal at Cigna is responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships within a client portfolio that includes Specialty Pharma Manufacturers. This role focuses on driving growth opportunities, managing contracts, and executing account strategies to achieve business unit goals. The position requires a deep understanding of the Pharma industry and the ability to negotiate and manage contracts effectively. Responsibilities Build and maintain key strategic relationships within the client portfolio. , Assist with RFPs and new sales initiatives. , Drive strategic growth opportunities with senior executives using market insights. , Work cross-functionally with product, account management, operations, clinical, and sales teams. , Own the contract development and execution of account strategies. , Contribute to strategic planning for client renewal and retention strategies. , Develop and execute account strategies that result in revenue growth. , Ensure account expectations are met by collaborating with internal and external partners. , Anticipate and recommend improvements for internal and external business challenges. , Solve complex problems that impact the business broadly. , Represent the organization externally as a recognized Pharma expert and thought leader. Requirements Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (MBA preferred). , 10-14 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, 8-12 years with a Master's, or 16-20 years without a degree. , Strong project management skills. , Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills. , Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. , Working knowledge of program metrics and financials. , Essential negotiation skills. , Superior analytical and problem-solving skills. , Excellent organizational skills and experience leading client meetings. , Demonstrated experience negotiating and managing contracts with integrity. , Knowledge of the Specialty Healthcare, Pharma, and PBM industry preferred. , Ability to develop strategic work plans and assess growth opportunities. , Strong critical thinking skills to identify issues and develop remediation plans. , Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and teams.
