Freelance Animator / Illustrator

Title: Animator / Illustrator – Playful & Minimalist Style Location: Remote U.S. Job Type: Freelance / Contract (APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A PORTFOLIO) About the Role We’re looking for a versatile Animator/Illustrator who can translate our creative direction into engaging illustrations and light animations for social media, packaging, in-app experiences, and marketing materials. You’ll work closely with our brand team to develop characters, icons, and patterns that tell small but meaningful stories - all within a clean, pared-back aesthetic. What You’ll Do • Create playful, pared-back illustrations featuring whimsical organic shapes, minimalist lines, and soft, approachable colors. • Develop anthropomorphic abstractions (e.g., brains, dots, clouds) with simple limbs and expressive faces to convey mood. • Produce light animations in the same style for social posts, reels, and app moments. • Maintain consistency with our limited color palette (soft pastels, warm neutrals, with occasional bold pops). • Incorporate loose, confident lines, subtle textures (halftones, dots), and creative use of negative space. • Collaborate with our brand team to iterate on sketches and refine concepts. • Design expressive icons, patterns, and one-off illustrations for both internal and external use. What We’re Looking For • Strong portfolio showing playful, minimalist illustration and animation work (please include links in your application). • Experience with 2D animation tools (e.g., After Effects, Adobe Animate, Procreate, or similar). • Ability to balance hand-drawn spontaneity with clean, deliberate execution. • Comfort experimenting with organic shapes, imperfect forms, and whimsical character design. • Strong storytelling skills — able to convey feeling and humor with minimal detail. • Collaborative and open to feedback, with the ability to iterate quickly. Bonus Skills • Experience creating assets for social media campaigns. • Familiarity with pattern design and iconography. • Understanding of brand consistency and visual identity systems.
