Conservation Specialist

Position Overview Salary: $45,000-$56,000 annually Education Required: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in natural resources or related field Description The Georgia-Alabama Land Trust, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching life through land protection. The organization has protected more than 500,000 acres through conservation easements that permanently safeguard land with significant conservation value across the Southeastern United States. This position manages stewardship responsibilities for assigned conservation easement properties across Georgia and Alabama. Work includes field monitoring, landowner engagement, documentation, and coordination with internal staff. The role supports long-term land protection by maintaining strong landowner relationships, ensuring compliance with easement terms, and upholding Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices. Responsibilities include a mix of office work, fieldwork, and regional travel. Responsibilities • Maintain positive, ongoing communication with landowners and donors • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with landowners • Monitor protected properties through aerial review and in-person site visits • Address follow-up items from monitoring, including reserved rights requests and property transfers • Draft Baseline Documentation Reports, condition reports, and land management plans • Provide land management guidance to landowners and internal staff • Support outreach, donor engagement, and stakeholder relationships • Assist across departments to advance organizational mission Minimum Requirements • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, geography, or related field • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently, manage time, and meet deadlines • Practical problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail • Understanding of conservation practices and natural resource preservation • Ability to identify Southeastern United States flora and fauna • Field skills including GPS use, navigation, surveying, and mapping • Ability to hike, carry equipment, and work outdoors in varied weather conditions • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, Google Earth, and ESRI ArcPro • Valid driver’s license, access to a dependable vehicle, and insurability under corporate auto policy Additional Notes This position is remote, based in South Georgia or North Georgia, with periodic travel to the Land Trust office in Piedmont, Alabama.
